Hello, and welcome to my website!
My name is Rob McKenna, and I’ve been running for Governor since I ran for student body president in 1984. In order to bolster my electoral prospects, I spend a lot of time covering my tracks so that Washington voters don’t discover that I’m not who I say I am.
I know that to win in Washington State, I have to pretend to be a “moderate” Republican. So I tell mainstream audiences what they want to hear, while allowing my campaign to get a boost from figures like Karl Rove and the Koch Brothers’ inner circle. I hoped no one would notice, but I even told hundreds of Tea Partiers “I represent you.”
As Attorney General, I tried to pretend that protecting consumers and the middle class was my highest priority. But I said that it was the “wrong approach” for states to regulate the reckless behavior of Big Banks and continuously cut the consumer protection services my office is supposed to provide to Washingtonians.
When it comes to working families, I publicly distance myself from extreme right-wing Republicans who have gained national notoriety for attacking organizing rights. But I’ve called the unionization of public employees “dangerous” and said that we’ve made “too many commitments to our employees.”
It is exhausting saying something to one audience while saying something else entirely to another, but all in the cause of becoming your next Governor!
